As we are all getting ready for That Thing in the Desert, we wanted to share some stories from previous Burns to help illustrate why we have selected the eBikes accessories we’re making available to everyone. These are all true stories, though we’ve been asked not to use real names. Maybe if you meet these Burners out there, you can say you read their story.
If you need any of these accessories, come visit us on your way to the Playa. We will be located in Nixon, NV just off 477 before the Post Office.
In 2015, Scout thought he could carry everything in his camelback. Except that year, 2015, was one of the coldest on record. By 4 pm almost every day, his flannels and faux fur were barely enough to keep him warm. And he couldn’t fit everything into his camelback, as planned. Of course, his fellow Burners came to the rescue and attached a mesh basket to the front of his bike. This proved a lifesaver and he’s never gone to the playa without a front basket.
In 2022, Pastie knew they were going to take hundreds of photos each day. They were determined to make a photobook for campmates. Except Pastie’s iPhone ran too low on battery and they missed shooting the Black Rock Symphony at Paradesium. We’ve ensured Patsie will never be without power again.
Big Bird came in 2016. He and his wife went out on the playa for an art tour. She told him to bring his bike lock. He said, “This is The Burn. Nobody will steal my bike.” Guess what? The playa provides…and the playa also steals bikes. Nobody will steal his eBike this year with this heavy duty lock.
Do you know what a Darkwad is? Seriously. This is the name for someone who goes out on the playa at night without lighting on their bike (or themselves). Ability-Jane learned the hard way when she rode out her first night without any lights. Now, she will never have to worry about that again. Don’t be a Darkwad! (Or a sparkle pony).
No story. Just insurance. Double measure of lighting wonderment for Ability-Jane and anyone who wants to light up at night.
In 2016, Sprinkles had a camelbak, but his tube broke. Basically, he was out dancing with his campmates, and they piled their camelbaks into a mountain they danced around. If you’ve been to the Burn, you know these piles. When it came time to leave, people were grabbing and pulling the packs out. Someone broke Sprinkle’s. And he didn’t have an extra pack. He always tells this story because now he never travels without an extra one.
all things are vulnerable to needing repair out in the Black Rock Desert. Be prepared. That is what the nice folks at a bike repair camp told Sylvia when one of her inner tubes started to leak in 2017. Last year, her girlfriend's inner tube busted. She had this repair kit. So, when she got to a bike repair camp on the 9:00 side, she was able to lend a hand.
his story goes back to 2014. If you were there, you know about the huge rain storm that closed the gates on Monday. Papa Muscle had these cool paper maps he created for a scavenger hunt. He planned it for months before the Burn. They were in his front basket, while the rain poured down. He lost them all. Next year, he returned with a waterproof handlebar pouch. And he even felt safe bringing his digital camera out, as we
this last story is about me. This was a fun gift I received last year just before I started The Naked Pub Crawl. Let me tell you, this was the handiest thing ever to ensure I always had my cup ready. So, I want to make sure everyone else can have one, too.
